- Answer Any powered sub should work. You would just connect it to the pre-amp out on the back of the unit. At most you may have to get an RCA Y cable if the sub you choose only has 1 RCA jack on the back of it.

QuestionI have Rotel receiver with BW speakers that turns off for safety purpose when volume goes to 70 . If I buy amp will this stop or do I need receiver with more capacity?

- Answer The A12 easily powers my B&W 684s. I’ve turned it up past the 70 mark a few times without any issues. But that’s pretty loud so I’m not usually up past that. I don’t have a receiver connected. My sources are CDs, digital FLAC files and sometimes iPhone via Bluetooth. I’m really happy with the A12. Hope this helps

QuestionHi I want to wire up my phonograph using the input jacks on the back and connecting the ground wire. It's a vintage analog marantz turntable. I notice the volume is significantly challenged when using the phono input vs. CD. Do i need a phono pre-amp?

- Answer This integrated amplified has a built-in phono preamplifier. First, the most obvious question: have you plugged your turntable into the phono inputs? If you plug it into any of the other inputs, the signal won't go through the phono preamp. The phono preamp amplifies the low-level signal from your phono cartridge and also applies RIAA equalization (boosts lows and cuts highs). Another possibility is that you have a moving coil (MC) phono cartridge rather than a moving magnet (MM) type. MC has lower output than MM and requires a phono preamp suitable for MC cartridges. It's also possible you have a MM cartridge with lower than typical output. The input sensitivity of the A12's phono preamp is specified as 3 mV. Compare that to your cartridge's spec.

- Answer If you bought a US version of the A12, then just as the specifications plainly state (you can download the manual via the...gasp...internet): Power Requirements USA 120V, 60 Hz or a European version EC 230V, 50 Hz.

- Answer The amp is designed to drive speakers of 8 Ohm nominal impedance (of course impedance of a speaker varies with frequency). Nevertheless, it should be able to drive the Elac's. (I have the A14 MkII and have used it with Wharfedale Linton Heritage speakers, which are also rated at 6 Ohms). And since the A12 MkII has recently been released, you should be able to find the A12 discounted (at least $200 from Best Buy's price, so get them to price match).
