• Yes they can be i usually listen to one until it says low battery and then swap them out, there pretty loud if your using both.

• From what I've seen, you either use both or just the RIGHT side earbud. You cannot use the left side bud by itself.

• You are able to pair each earbud to your phone as a standalone. You just need to pair the Left earbud by itself to your phone. It should come up as Rowkin Ascent L on your Bluetooth device list.

• Yes, that's what makes these the best. You can use up one batterie and then use the other side. and they both don't have to be in case to charge like some ear buds do. I got 3 pairs already. my son wanted the smaller case so it's not so bulky in his pocket but I loved the big one so I can charge my cell if I ever go low.
