The exhaust fan vents out on the top above the door. There’s a grill that the air is pulled through from the bottom filters and out through the top front. This feature is also handy when mounting under a flush cabinet with no exhaust piping in place.

Once you get it out of the box there are instructions to remove a panel and flip the exhaust a certain way so it blows back into the house. It is very easy to do! We had to do it for our as we had no outside exhaust for our house. It took me less that 5 minutes to switch it.
