• It has sleep mode. If you shut it, it goes to sleep and wakes when you open it. There is no ethernet port.

• Yes it has a sleep mode. Just closing the lid puts it to sleep. Yes you can use a USB ethernet adapter. I bought the one from Insignia and it works flawlessly.
