Actually, you absolutely can use Google’s version of Excel which is Google sheets and it works perfectly fine. If you receive an Excel doc via email and open it up on your Chrome Book, then the data will be opened in Google sheets without causing any issues.

Unfortunately no, you can not use excel or word with having a chromebook, I didn’t know this before I brought and made the mistake of not knowing prior to buying one .
