No. The ice maker is actually in a very good spot as far as ice maker issues go. It's in a secure spot, not being in the door. It seems most of the problems with ice makers are ones installed in the door, because of the opening and closing of the door.

Can't answer that, but ours has worked fine with it hooked up, whether it was turned on or not (didn't turn it on for a couple of weeks after installation, but it has run continuously since.
