Hello. Thank you for reaching out regarding your Samsung - 17.6 Cu. Ft. Top-Freezer Refrigerator with FlexZone™ and Ice Maker on how the ice maker works and do I need a water line connected to the ice maker. Regarding your concern, you need to connect the water line to the ice maker. For the ice maker to operate properly, the water pressure of 20-125 psi (138-862 kPa) is required. After you have connected the waterline, make sure the water storage tank inside the refrigerator is properly filled. You can purchase the water line installation kit from your retailer. We recommend using a kit that contains copper tubing and a 6 mm (1/4”) compression nut. I suggest you check this link to your user manual for further assistance. Please go to pages 19 to 27. https://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/202101/20210111110110655/DA68-03570A-14_EN_MES_CFR.pdf Should you need more assistance, please feel free to get back to us via the following options: 1. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Of course you need a waterline to the ice maker. If you have any plumbing skills, it’s easy to connect a waterline to it. If you have no plumbing skills, then you’ll need a plumber or handyman to do it for you.

With icemaker in place, the icemaker turns on automatically when the refrigerator is plugged in. See owner's manual.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Ice maker works good. I purchased a in-line water filter at Lowe’s and a “T” with 1/4” connection for my water source. The 1/4” line just pushes into the filter and you are done. Turn water on and it starts making ice. I personally don’t think a professional is needed. The job took less than an hour.
