Like you, I have a Samsung Smart TV, the speakers on the TV are not very effective. I purchased the sound bar and what a difference. The remote has two controls, volume and woofer. You can raise one and lower the other or raise or lower both at the same time. I don't think any sound bar or speaker system will lower the background music because it is all part of the soundtrack and you would need very sophisticated equipment to separate the background from the dialogue.
