“Have a new Samsung 65" Curved TV on an existing soundbar with optical cable. When the TV is turned off the soundbar turns off, when the TV is turned on have to use the speaker's remote to turn it on. Will using this & an HDMI cable negate using 2 remotes?”

I use with optical cable that came with it and it turns on and off with tv (samsung 65" curved) Had to hold the "sound" button on the soundbar remote with soundbar on to have it controlled by tv Had to actually read directions to get that to work - hate that :}
