“This soundbar will not stay connected to my tv when the tv is turned off. Every time we turn on the tv and the sound bar, we have to reconnect the sound bar in the settings of the tv (which is a Samsung 40 inch tv). Is there a reason for this?”

Use the digital cable given to you with the speaker. If not provided get one. Mine turns off and turns on with the tv
