• Yes, I have a Samsung tv and you can use the tv remote to operate the speaker system. It can absolutely be muted as well.

• My Samsung tv hooked up to a Direct tv remote worked just fine. It might depend on you tv and whether you are on cable, or satellite.

• The sound bar has to be turned on with the sound bar remote but volume can be turned up and down with TV REMOTE
