which side of the dryer does the vent come out null

As purchased, the dryer vents to the back but there are plates on either side of the unit that allows dryer to vent as required. I changed my dryer to vent to the right by myself. While I accomplished the task myself, however I strongly recommend either a helper to hold vent pipes when reconnecting, or growing a third arm.
