“I am going to VESA mount this monitor next to an identical one for a dual set up and not have it on the base it comes with. Is there a way to remove the base mount at the back lower since it wont be used? Please see picture.”

base comes in box unattached. so your VESA mounts will work. that is how i use 2 of these monitors.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, the base is actually two different parts, the horizontal stand and a vertical piece that connects to the stand and to the back of the monitor. It would not be necessary to remove the stand when you buy this unit since they are separate parts, just don't install the two base parts.
