“The manual for this refrigerator states as a warning that the supply line (behind frig) for the water must be turned off prior to replacing the water filter. Is this true? I have to pull the refrigerator out of its place to put in a new water filter?”

Excellent question! It is definitely recommended to turn off the water supply when changing the water filter due to the buildup of pressure possibly causing unnecessary difficulty removing the old filter. The water supply can be turned off behind the refrigerator or at any of the source locations based on the home's setup. ^Jecca
