However, power surges can sometimes damage the refrigerator's controls or cause the "cooling off" mode to be activated. If you live in an area that is prone to power outages and surges, I would suggest contacting your local power company, appliance retailer or electrician for advice on protecting your appliances or other electronics from the effects of power surges. - Ms. Samsung
