    Well Designed and Quiet

I've owned this refrigerator for about a month and purchased it to replace an older GE that was too noisy. My only needs with a refrigerator was that it cooled properly and that it was quiet (and not necessarily in that order). I am extremely sensitive to noise invading the tranquility of my home, so I'm going to start with noise because that's the part I researched the most as I was searching for a new refrigerator... Noise: This refrigerator is easily the quietest I've tried out. My old GE was always a bit loud, but it was just the sound of the fan. I had to turn up the TV in the living and even the bedroom sometimes when it turned on. I couldn't even hear the pool pump outside the kitchen window when this thing ran. I have an open floor plan with tile everywhere, so acoustics are a problem. The old refrigerator didn't bother me much until it started to make some vibrating noises and tones which couldn't be fixed or muted. Drove me crazy, so it was time to make a change which wasn't as easy as I thought. I started off trying two LG French door models. Both sounded like crickets in the house with the compressor. And they tended to make some high pitch whines sometimes. So I tried a Maytag top freezer. Same cricket sound and low hum. Lastly, some appliance experts told me that Kitchenaid made very good and quiet refrigerators. So I tried a French door model of that brand and had the same problem with the compressor sounding like crickets. This one also made very loud whistling sometimes, so loud that it awakened me from another room and I had to unplug it. When I say these compressors all sounded like crickets in the house, I mean I could hear it in most rooms. My wife, who didn't mind the old GE, was even bothered by the noise from these new compressors. I visited a friend who purchased the same LG model I sent back and it annoyed me the entire time I sat in his living room, but he couldn't hear it. I'm not sure of another way to describe the sound. This Samsung refrigerator does make a similar sound from the compressor, but it isn't nearly as loud as others I've tried. I put acoustic padding on the wall behind it and on one side in the alcove where it sits and I cannot hear that crickets sound unless the house is perfectly quiet and I listen for it specifically. Even then, it's difficult. Other Noises: No, it's not silent. No refrigerator is. There is a medium pitch tone just from the motor running. I can only hear it when it is very quiet in the house, and yeah, it bugs me a little bit, but it's really not loud and isn't a big deal. I cannot hear this refrigerator at all when the pool pump is running outside, or if just the central air is running, or even just a ceiling fan is running in the living room. And that includes not being able to hear the soft tone. Not being able to hear a refrigerator over fairly quiet ceiling fan is quiet enough for me. It also sometimes makes some gurgling and popping noises which I understand is just the refrigerant. It's not noticeable unless I'm standing next to it listening for it (which I had been doing for the first few days I owned it). Yeah, the ice maker makes noise when it fills and dumps and that can easily be heard over other stuff in the house. Don't care. It's not that often and only for a few seconds. And it can be turned off. Design: I know side by sides aren't an efficient use of space, but I still prefer them over top freezers and french doors. I don't like having to bend down to get to the refrigerator with top freezers. And I don't like french doors where I sometimes have to open the OTHER door to get to what I want. And pull out freezers where stuff is just dumped in are not great in my opinion. This one uses space better than most side by sides I've seen. With only two in our household, it's plenty of space and we haven't come close to using it all. Still more space than our old top freezer. Shelves/Drawers: There are plenty of adjustable shelves in the refrigerator and freezer and in the doors. Two of the door bins can hold gallon jugs. Much more room than I'll ever need for gallons or 2 liter bottles. One of the shelves in the refrigerator can turn into a half shelf by pushing the front part back underneath to allow space for taller items on the lower shelf. I like that it doesn't use wire racks in the freezer, but rather tempered glass. Of course, it looks foggy when the door is opened sometimes, but no big deal. I didn't like the wine racks and pulled those out though. I didn't have a use for them and they just took up space for me. The refrigerator has 3 large drawers and the freezer has 2. None of them slide out all the way which is my only complaint with the design. But this really isn't an issue for me and they can be pulled out beyond the track to be removed. Larger items can fit in these bins if they are pulled beyond the limit of the track. Aesthetics: - The stainless steel looks nice in our kitchen and is easy to clean with Wymans wipes. The door handles are sleek looking. - The lighting inside is fantastic. There are lights at the top in the front and all the way down the back (in both refrigerator and freezer) so that every shelf and bin is well lit. It's not theater lighting that I'm seeing in some new refrigerators, but who wants their cottage cheese lit up and displayed like an expensive art piece? The lighting in this model does the job. - The front display in the door over the ice/water dispenser is a pleasing blue and the chimes when the buttons are pressed are nice. The door chime is also non-intrusive when the door is left open too long. - The sides are a dark grey which I prefer over black. - The doors are very easy to open and close. Performance: - The ice maker on this fills up faster than my old GE. I don't know if it would be considered better than average or not, but it works fine. - The ice dispenser will dispense cubed or crushed ice. The crushed isn't completely crushed, but rather more like chipped ice. I didn't think I'd ever use the crushed option, but I'm finding I like it better. The cubes are crescent shapes and a little smaller than the crescent ice in my old refrigerator. - Sometimes when choosing cubed ice after using crushed, it will still sound like it's trying to crush more ice and will send out more crushed ice for a little while. - The water dispenser works fantastic. On the first day, it was dripping quite a bit after dispensing, but it hasn't done it since. Water comes out a fast and doesn't spray. There might be one drip afterwards. And the water tastes great with the filter. - The button that the cup presses against works well and can be pushed with a plastic/paper cup without crushing the cup. - When I first plugged in this refrigerator, it cooled in about 2 hours. The power freeze option definitely worked. I could see the actual temps drop faster. I haven't used it since first plugging it in. Even stocking the refrigerator and freezer doesn't cause a temperature rise for me. - The compressor sounds like it runs at different speeds. So sometimes it will make that very soft tone I mentioned and sometimes it won't. I've heard a lot of different noises from this refrigerator, but none of them loud or very bothersome. - I can't say if the energy savings option using the button on the front really makes any difference. So I leave it on. - The drip pan under the water dispenser is the same color as the stainless steel and doesn't hold a lot of water if you miss the cup. Overall, I would definitely recommend this refrigerator. I'm giving it 4 stars only because I wish I couldn't hear that soft tone at all, but this one still wins easily over any other in the noise area. And the issue with the drawers not opening far enough is my only other complaint. Otherwise, I am pleased with everything else with this model.

We will never buy any Samsung appliances after our experience with them. We bought the Samsung RS22HDHPNSR/AA Refrigerator and within 2 months the ice maker stopped working. That is something we could live with. Then 1 year later, I noticed the freezer was defrosting and everything in the refrigerator was warm. Lights and power still worked but it was no longer cooling. We lost all of our food and I tried calling Samsung support but was directed to calling back during business hours. We are family of 5 with three small children, including a baby so not having a working refrigerator is stressful. My husband and I could not find a company open on the weekend that could service a Samsung. Two days later was a Monday and we finally got in touch with Samsung but our refrigerator was 1 year and 2 months old not covered under warranty. They sent an appliance company, which we had to pay, for them to tell us the cooling system went out and no one can fix it. We told Samsung and they said they will do research since the cooling system is under warranty for 5 years. Still no word after numerous calls, holds, and terrible customer service. Finally they got back to us with no one can fix it, that we can submit our receipts for reimbursement which we did. Then we moved ahead with buying a new refrigerator (different brand this time!) because it had already been 1 week without one and that is hard to do with small kids. Lowes was extremely helpful and hauled away the old one. We had to follow up with Samsung AGAIN regarding the receipt/reimbursement. Terrible customer service, hold times for 40 minutes and longer, and they tell us they got our receipts and to hold onto the broken machine. Never once at the start of this process did they share that ‘policy’. We tried to track down its location with Lowes (Lowes again was extremely helpful) and find out it went to the same company who did the service call – called that company and it had already been recycled. I called Samsung with again terrible customer service and they just keep repeating the policy even though we were told once we submitted our receipts everything was done. I asked if they hauled away the broken (dangerous machine with Freon in it) and they said Samsung does not provide that service that, “I should have put it on my front porch.” So I asked if they pay condo association fees for having broken and dangerous appliances outside my town house? What about the food we lost? Not to mention the stress and poor customer service, I would never recommend buying a Samsung anything to anyone. Samsung sells expensive refrigerators that stop working after 1 year and have the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

Our 15 year old Kitchenaid Suberba died of natural causes. We compared several counter depth models and finally picked this one for several reasons: price, ice/water thru the door, counter depth, and looks. We don't really care if it has a smartphone app, which by the way I tried and the result was that the fridge can't communicate with the app. The delivery guys were awesome and helpful, and that's where the good stops and the hassle begins. Immediately after delivery, I had to leave for an appointment which took about 45 minutes; upon returning home I found a small puddle in the tray that lines the bottom of the water/ice dispenser. Strike 1 I peeled off the protective plastics and started getting it ready to put food in by wiping down all the inside surfaces, as instructed by the delivery guy... because apparently we manufacture refrigerators with toxic carcinogens these days. I immediately noticed that the 3 drawers in the bottom of the fridge only open 4 3/4". You can't even get a head of lettuce into a drawer without making shredded lettuce. Strike 2. The next problem is the panel that surrounds the LCD display and dispenser buttons on the freezer door seems to be warped and pops out of alignment all the time; or it simply doesn't fit properly. I push it back into place but it will pop back out again. Shoddy workmanship/design. Strike 3 And the final nail in the coffin: once in awhile (every 2-3 hours) this machine makes a horrible screeching noise. In my experience I know that compressors and other such devices that make a noise similar to an insect in its death throes are probably doing exactly that: dying. Strike 4. You're out.

Let me start by saying this is NOT a new model. This refrigerator has been around several years, and Best Buy previously had it on clearance. It doesn't make sense that it is now listed as new and at full price. Having said that, we purchased this model because we needed a counter depth with a proven track record. Most of the other stores/competitors/sites had several hundred reviews and it was consistently a 4.5 or better. We had initially wanted a French door style, but when this went on clearance in stainless steel, the price couldn't be beat. We went from a full size to counter depth. There is lots of shelving space and space on the doors in the refrigerator. Yes, you can fit a turkey, 13x9 pan, gallon jugs, etc. The three bin drawers are deep and fit warehouse brand extra large bags of fruit, lettuce, etc. The lighting is bright and consistent, even if a jug or something is in front of it. We haven't had any trouble with the ice maker or water, but have purchased the extended warranty. Plenty of ice for our family but we would buy a bag for a party. We were more concerned with having enough refrigerator space over freezer space because we have a small chest style freezer. However, there really is a decent amount of freezer space. Not sure a large pizza box could fit, though. Both sides do well with cooling and even temperatures. Most importantly, because we have an open floor plan, this model is NOT noisy. You can hear ice drop like with any model but it is very quiet when it runs. All of the parts (shelves, dispenser) seem very well made and sturdy. I would strongly recommend this model but NOT at full price.

It broke and the warranty process is HORRIBLE

I've had this fridge for 13 months... So - the fridge itself is fine - It's counter depth and looks sleek - the only drawback is the ice dispenser is kinda slow - the "crushed ice" option is a joke - it doesn't crush ice and no matter what setting you are on - it spits out ice at either one cube SLOWLY and then 8 cubes all at once. BUT my major complaint is with Samsung and with the GeekSquad extended warranty. As of 4 days ago - the compressor went out - which means that both the fridge and freezer stopped working. I called the geek squad on Friday morning and the best they could do to have it looked at was the following Tuesday. Not cool. I was able to call the authorized repair person directly and they were able to make it out the next day early morning and let me know it's the worst case scenario - the compressor is shot - without the warranty it would cost $1300 to fix! (and apparently this is a common problem) I might as well buy a new fridge! So now - they are waiting on Samsung to authorize them to even order the part which takes a couple of days for authorization and then it takes another 2-3 days for them to receive the part - needless to say I will never buy another Samsung product as long as this is their repair process. And I'll never bother waisting my money on GeekSquad extended protection - they are so unhelpful - other than them scheduling the appointment they were useless. Buyer beware and cross your fingers it works longer than a year if you get this one - but i would urge you to consider other brands and then google a certified repair tech and get their opinion before you buy.

We recently purchased our first home, and we needed to find appliances for our new kitchen. Best Buy has always had friendly and knowledgeable staff, so choosing it for our appliance needs was an easy decision. The refrigerator itself is backed by a great warranty, and Best Buy has its own warranty program for all appliances if you are interested. We chose this refrigerator because it was affordable for the quality. The stainless steel itself looks wonderful, and the counter-depth design makes it very sleek in our new kitchen. The refrigerator has a "power freeze" option which allows quick cooling if you need something chilled in a short amount of time, such as last minute drinks for a get-together. It also has a great water/ice dispenser that has a great light source for those late night water runs to the kitchen. The water dispenser also has a removable bottom for easy cleaning if need be. Best Buy was fantastic with the installation process as well. We scheduled the time that they would arrive when we purchased in the store, and we got text messages and courtesy calls the day before with reminders of the appointment. The day of the installation, the Best Buy team gave us a call when they were 30 minutes out, and they were right on time - down to the minute. Installation process took about 20 minutes, and they were there to make sure no issues would arise. Would highly recommend this refrigerator, as well as Best Buy for your appliance needs. We have been loyal customers of Best Buy for over a decade, and this big purchase further affirmed our loyalty to Best Buy for all of our electronic needs.

Fridge perfect, BEWARE of provided measurements

I have only positive things to say about this refrigerator. The configuration options on the door allow you to maximize the space to meet your needs. It feels spacious despite being comparatively small - and it is EXTREMELY quiet. The only time I hear it at all is when ice is dropping down into the chute. I never hear the compressor. The lone (fairly big) complaint I have, is the measurements provided by Best Buy are NOT accurate. The delivery guys commented that this "unfortunately" happened all the time - that the specs are commonly just slightly wrong. Specifically - the height provided is shy by 3/4 of inch. To clarify, the measurement listed is the height of the door - HOWEVER on the top/front of each door are plastic compartments that house wiring for the internal lights as well as a magnet that triggers the "door ajar" bell. This little compartment sticks up above the door by roughly 3/4 inch - and is NOT included in the specs. SO - if your refrigerator needs to fit into a space with cabinetry above it - tack on an inch to ensure it can slide in all the way. We had to cut out notches into our cabinets to get it to fit and luckily you can't tell but I thought this a pretty major oversight by Best Buy. That said - I LOVE the refrigerator - just hope it fits for you from the box without requiring a jigsaw....

This is my first counter depth fridge and I have owned it for about one month so far. Being counter depth the capacity is less that a full depth fridge, but I'm fine with that and have not yet run out of space inside. I like the fact you can fit 2 gallon jugs of milk in the door, but it's not possible to fit a gallon on a shelf. The shelf spacing is just slightly too small to get the container in without whacking the shelf above. Freezer capacity is good for our needs. Build quality seems good. The two things I don't like are : - The stainless finish looks great, but picks up finger marks REALLY easily, and they are hard to remove. My other stainless appliances are much more forgiving in this respect - Noise. This seems to have different modes of running the compressor. Sometimes it's nice a quiet and not obtrusive, other times it seems to run harder and creates a really annoying hum. Also, a few minutes after you dispense ice from the ice dispenser, it makes a REALLY loud shrieking noise for a few seconds. Otherwise I'm very happy with it.

    Died after 14 months

I originally purchased a prior similar Samsung model in March of 2011. The sealed system of that unit leaked after less than 3 years and Samsung refunded the purchase price. Figuring that it was a fluke, I replaced it with this model, and the sealed system developed at least two leaks after about 14 months and again Samsung refunded the purchase price. I suppose this is just really bad luck (what are the odds of a lemon: maybe 1%?), but - under severe penalty from my spouse - I cannot buy another Samsung refrigerator. If something like this happens, it takes at least several weeks to resolve. Imagine the inconvenience and spoiled food, etc. We bought a "second" smaller refrigerator to place in the garage to help bridge the gap. Other than that, I liked it. Based on this experience, any model I do buy must have a warranty (Parts AND Labor) on the sealed system of at least 5 years. SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS just in case. You may not get the full amount refunded unless you have the receipt (as I learned on the first one).

Refrigerator looks nice on outside but doesn't have a cold storage drawer, ice cream never freezes solid (if temp decreased, frost forms in freezer) and Samsung customer service is terrible! Fridge died May 21, 2016, 10 months after purchasing. Refrigerant leaked out and could not be repaired. After numerous phone calls, I was told not to discard my fridge and I would receive an email with refund instructions within 24-48 hours. Didn't hear anything so I called, it is actually 5 more days. Still no action so called again today. It will be another 5-7 days this time. This has been the pattern--tell me one thing--no action so I call and it is another story. It is June 17 and I still don't have a refrigerator or a refund and I've been told it will be another 5-7 days! Been eating out, doing carry out and using a cooler. We also lost about $400 in food when the fridge died. Absolutely outrageous and totally unacceptable to be treated this way!

Lovely counter-depth fridge...looks great and works great. The only things I wish were improved is how difficult it is to keep clean with fingerprint smudges, etc. Aggravating, but to be expected with stainless steel. I'm sure I'll figure something out that works for this... The only other thing is the "roundness" of the back of the INTERIOR of the fridge. Yes, I know it's a counter depth fridge, so there won't be as much space, but it is SOOO close to fitting a regular lasagna size pan on the shelf and being able to shut the door...I think it would if the back of the inside of the fridge weren't "bowing" and rounding pushing things towards the doors. This design may be unavoidable, but if there was literally one extra inch, it would work. That being said, great fridge for functionality and space...works well and is quiet. Overall, very pleased.

    Great Until It Stopped Working

The only buggy thing was the water dispenser. After about a year of use, it would continue dispensing water even after you stopped pressing on the button. You had to press it again to get it to stop. The grey pad for pressing looked like it would wear through in about five years. Turns out I was wrong. After two years, the grey pad was still intact, but last night, water started dribbling out around the pad. We emptied all of the water from the dispenser and the ice compartment. And we turned off the water supplying the fridge and disconnected the hose. This seemed to stop the dribbling. A few hours later, the refrigerator stopped working. BTW, this is not a freezer that holds the cold until it is opened. It starts to warm up as soon as the fridge/freezer stops cooling. You might want to know this if yours stops cooling. Immediately put all food into a cooler or it will be spoiled in a few hours (yes, even lettuce). The warranty for most of the fridge expires after a year. It says five years for the "sealed" unit. To get someone from Samsung to look at the fridge, you have to submit a ticket to Samsung. It takes TWO BUSINESS DAYS before you will hear from someone to SCHEDULE a service appointment.

I bought this model two years ago. The food in my freezer is now thawed out as I write this. It stopped cooling (both compartments) sometime in the last 24 hours. I called Samsung service. They said it MIGHT still be under warranty depending on the problem. They set up a service call. I called the 'Samsung approved' repair shop ... they said it would be five days before they could come out. I didn't want to wait so I called another repair shop, expecting Samsung not to honor any warranty anyway. The repair shop scheduled me for the next day, but then said they would not be able to come out when I told her it was a Samsung. She referred me to another repair company, informing me that 'MOST REPAIR SHOPS WON'T WORK ON SAMSUNG'S ANYMORE, BECAUSE THEY HAVE SO MANY PROBLEMS.' I had a similar very negative experience with a Samsung Windows tablet. At the time, i figured it was just a quirk. Now with the refrigerator, and the repair shop's comments, I'll never purchase ANY Samsung product again.

After much research on the more limited availability of counter depth fridges, we decided this one had the most promising features - modern style, quality material/drawers/accessories, longest warranty and well thought out space. It did arrive with a small dent that is hardly noticeable, we decided to just stick with it anyway. The icemaker is awesome. The fridge is quiet. The temperature is exact and easily adjustable. After coming from a full size fridge we had concerns on losing space, but we were happily surprised to find everything fit easily and it had much more space than anticipated. Overall quality with a well thought out design. We purchased during 4th of July sales - it was a great deal. They also were running an exciting rewards promo. We decided to purchase all of our appliances from Best Buy because of this promotion. We paid in full for the purchase but the Best Buy representative accidentally selected 18 month financing in the computer. Best Buy is now refusing to honor the promo even though the error was in their sales process (selecting financing). The error was not ours. I've been calling Best Buy for over a month without resolve and keep getting passed from person to person with my case number. Their customer service has not made me feel like a valued customer that got a "BEST BUY". I wish they would show me that they value my multiple appliance purchase and resolve this.

This has a beautiful finish and features I love. I was particularly interested in filtered water / icemaker and door dispenser. The icemaker really is loud as previously noted by other reviewers but my biggest complaint is the taste of the filtered water. I had my appliance professionally installed but the installers left my cold water disconnected at my sink. It was winter and I never had them come back to determine the source / fix the problem. My filtetered water / ice cubes tasted considerably worse (unusable) than straight from my faucet. I kept throwing away cycles of ice cubes thinking it just needed to be "cleaned out" per the installer's direction. It never got better and then the "change filter" light came on. Shortly after, our house flooded and we had to have it remediated. I'm hoping when we move back, I can have it properly installed (if water lines were mixed up or something) and it will work better with a new filter. I'll update my review when I have an answer. If the filtration system does not improve....my rating would drop considerably.

Really like this Samsung refrigerator. It is a really quiet unit. I had a Whirlpool (WRS571CIDM) delivered first and it was noisy. Kitchen is just off the family room and the noise from the WP was annoying. I can barely hear this fridge when the compressor is running. Also you cannot hear when water fills ice maker. You can hear ice cubes dropping but that is to be expected. It's nice and roomy. Drawers in frige are deep. Agree with other reviews about drawers not opening far enough. That's really my only negative on this fridge. Lighting is good in both fridge and freezer. It has back lights and a light on top in front of both fridge and freezer. Freezer is roomy also. Ice maker in door adds additional space. The two drawers hold a lot. Counter depth works well in my kitchen. I don't have the depth required for the full size. Overall I'm very satisfied with this purchase. Would have given 5 stars if drawers would open further.

I have purchased this product in November 2015, but ever since May 2016, the fridge has constantly needed repair. Three time so far the freezer just stopped working (the entire freezer, not just the ice maker) forcing us to throw out hard earn money on the products purchased. after 5 technician visits, still not fixed. Still dealing with Samsung, which i must say they have the worst customer service available on any product, as it takes them 2 weeks just to approve a visit while still under warranty, and every time we call Samsung to send someone to fix it, we have to go through the same process on the same product every time, because their record shows it's out of warranty, even though it has not been 1 year yet, forcing us yet again to send them proof of purchase with every call. I will not recommend another brand, but i will say stay away from Samsung and their horrible service.

Pros: Overall attractive appearance. Matches counter width nicely. Maintains temperature well. Cons: Low volume yet noticeable high & low frequency rattling sounds when the compressor and fan are running. Padding on compressor & fan mounts might fix this. Storage drawers only pull out halfway. A wider opening would be helpful. Storage drawers are composed of multiple and overlapping clear plastic segments with narrow gaps between segments that trap stray food particles. The trapped particles are unsanitary & unsightly, It's very difficult if not impossible to remove them by washing. I succeeded using a vacuum, but who wants to do that? A better solution would be factory heat sealing the joints to keep particles out. The ice/water dispenser LED light is useless except in a pitch black room. It needs a lamp upgrade, something putting out a minimum of 5x the lumens. If Samsung fixed these issues I'd give it 4 or 5 stars, until then the sloppy engineering only warrants 2 stars.

    Disappointed

It is nice looking, but oh so very poorly made. Just 16 months old and the compressor failed costing us hundreds in spoiled food and inconvenience. We thought we were lucky that the part was still under a warranty through Samsung, however, this just led to weeks of trying to deal with the worst service company (mandated by Samsung) I have experienced in 40 years of home ownership. We just passed three weeks without a refrigerator now and all we have to show for that is one much delayed service call. In the meantime, we are transferred, delayed, ignored, calls for updates on the replacement status for the condenser go unreturned. Pay attention to the other reviews, this unit is not worth the trouble unless you like a challenge or living out of a cooler. I will never ever buy another Samsung product.

Fine fridge, but slow, noisy ice dispenser.

This fridge does an excellent job of maintaining the freezer and refrigerator temperatures. It runs so quietly, we never hear it. That is certainly not the case with the ice dispenser. When a glass is pushed on the dispenser button, there is a 3 second delay before anything happens. Then ice starts dropping a few at a time, then all of a sudden, too many fall. You have to learn when to remove the glass so as not to overfill it. There is a strange noise during the ice dispensing, quite noisy! Maybe because the ice system is in the door. We use a lot of ice daily and the bin always stays nearly full. The door shelves and bins are nice and make arranging the food easy. The stainless steel front does show finger prints and must be cleaned frequently. On the bad side, delivery and installation was unsatisfactory and was delayed nearly a week due to poor communication between the store, the delivery company and myself. It took 3 visits to get it installed. Meanwhile, we were living out of an ice chest.
