You don't have to use the filter in the fridge. We hooked it up to our Culligan filtered water and it works. However, if you are installing your own water line to the fridge, Best Buy guys will not put it in for you. You'll have to do it yourself.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I wish I could fully answer this for you as I did install a filter. Each time I opened the filter valve to check on it water would leak under the crispers. I'm not sure if this would happen or not if you didn't have a filter installed.
