How long are the water filters supposed to last? The manual and web info says the water filters should last a year or more. We bought a unit new, and within about 4 months the filter replacement light was on. I don't mind keeping it current, but for about $50 each, those things add up quickly.
Is it normal that they can need replacement so frequently?

The lifetime of your filter is directly proportional to the ussage. Depending on the model it could be 6 months, 1 year or X amount of gallons, whichever occurs first. I have to change mine every 6 months, and as a matter of fact when is time to change you will notice a change in taste.

The water filter in the RF261BEAESR and other Samsung refrigerators is designed to last about 6 months (see page 12 of the user manual, as shown in attached photo). However, if your household uses more than the average amount of water each month, or if your water supply has a high level of impurities such as mineral deposits, the filter may need to be changed more frequently.
