From what I see, the water system is designed to go THROUGH the filter, so no filter- no water. Bad filter, no water. Bottom line, get a new filter.

If you have an external water filtration system in place to filter the water supplied to the refrigerator, it's fine to remove the filter cartridge from the RS265TDRS. The water line will bypass the filter system automatically without inserting a bypass cartridge or cap. If you don't have an external filtration system, then it's important to use the internal filter to help prevent mineral deposits or debris from damaging the lines. - Ms. Samsung
