I believe that we had to buy the extra attachment for the refridgerator, but it seems like it was only about a $20 addon and after paying that much for a refrigerator $20 wasn't going to stop me from having ice in the door. I'm pretty sure that it came with the filter though. We have had it for 1 year now and the filter alert light has just turned on so they last quite a while.
