“Must water filters be used and replaced? Our house water is fine. We don't want to spend $40 once or twice a year to replace filters. For model#: RF266AEWP/XAA: Is the filter for the water dispenser only, or the ice cube maker only, or for both? Since the fridge comes with a filter, we want to know if the filter MUST be used (i.e. can we remove the filter). If it must be used (kept in place), MUST it be replaced periodically (how often)? -i.e. is it safe and functional to leave a "full" filter in place indefinitely?”

Thanks for the questions. The water filter on the RF266AEWP filters water for both the icemaker and the water dispenser. Although it is not recommended, you can remove the water filter and still use the ice and water functions on most of our refrigerators manufactured since 2008, including the RF266AEWP. - Ms. Samsung
