Cracked or overflowing drain pan What it is: A pan at the base of the fridge that collects condensate water for evaporation. How it happens: It can overflow due to excessive condensation, or it can simply crack and leak. How to check: Pull the fridge out to locate the drain pan and check for cracks or if it is overflowing. 4.     • Answer Your freezer is likely only dispensing crushed ice because a physical obstruction, like a trapped ice cube or frost, is preventing the mechanism from switching to cubed ice mode. This can be caused by a malfunctioning solenoid, a misaligned metal bar that controls the switch, or a stuck selector switch. Simple checks and fixes Check for a stuck ice cube: Remove the ice bucket and check the dispenser's "flap" or "trap door" for any ice cubes that may be lodged in it, say iFixit. Clear any ice blockages: Inspect the ice chute for any other ice buildup or obstructions, and clear them out, Reset the dispenser: Unplug the refrigerator for a few minutes to reset the control board. Check the metal bar: When reinstalling the ice bucket, make sure the metal bar on the bottom is not sliding under the "stirrup" or lever that activates the cubed ice mode.
