• Yes all you need is a hd antenna and you will get all the hd channels available in your area depending on your antenna strength . My tv gets close to 40 channels.

• Yes, I pulled in 30 channels using a very inexpensive antenna in Ft Lauderdale.

• It doesn't have to be connected to a cable box, so I believe it does. We hooked the cable line directly to the TV cable in port and after doing a channel scan it works great. Some HD channels, usually the local stations, are still offered over the air.
