“when can softener be added manually? I am used to adding softener manually when my old machine started to fill up for the rinse cycle. New unit (top loader) does not seem to fill with much water for rinsing nor is there any agit to help rinse.”

The manual says you can pause the cycle (unlocking the lid) to manually add softener to the rinse if you prefer not to use the automated dispenser.

Samsung recommends filling the detergent and fabric softener compartments with the correct amounts at the start of the wash; the compartments will dispense at the appropriate times in the cycle. The WA422PRHDWR, like other high efficiency (HE) top load washers, is designed to wash the clothes by circulating them through the water rather than submerging them. To ensure your washer is using the right amount of water, check the inlet hose screens on the back of the washer for blockage, and make sure the hoses are not bent or kinked, the water valves are turned on all the way, and your home's water pressure is at the recommended 20-116 psi. If the pressure or water level are not sufficient, your washer is designed to display an "nF" or no fill error code on the display to alert you to check the above factors. - Ms. Samsung
