“Does the water completely drain? I was told that the front loading washers do not completely drain and that sludge/sewer water remains in the unit, hence the fowl smell problems.”

When installed and leveled properly, water should flow to the available drains and exit the machine. It's important for the drain hose to be installed properly to prevent back-flow into the machine; the debris filter should be cleaned regularly, and there's an auxiliary drain hose next to the debris filter that can be used to drain excess water, or in the event of a power outage. Samsung Front Load Washers are also equipped with a Self Clean+ program which doesn't require any additives but should be run every 40 cycles to help keep the drum clean and fresh-smelling.
