I had the same concerns since my only experience was with the old school washer w/agitator. The only thing I can tell you is we have been using this machine for about two months now, large family w/ two dogs, and the only things we have needed to rewash are the dog mats. However, we needed to wash them twice with the old machine as well. We are very pleased with the performance of this washer and the water level does not appear to impact the performance.

Unfortunately with all the clothes agitating at the bottom quarter of the basket, the clothes has little room to move around. Less room to agitate means less room for the detergent to flow through. The poor washing result may not be ideal but the poor function is how the product is engineered. Less water use at the expense of a higher quality wash. I own this machine and have noticed that water cannot be manually increased.

Please try again later.I was told by the manufacturer that it places the amount of water based on the weight of the clothes. it does not matter that it doesn't fill above the clothes, the clothes will eventually get agitated thoroughly. It saves you money, and saves the environment some how.

HE Washers are designed to wash clothes effectively with much less water by circulating the clothes through the water gently (without an agitator) rather than submerging them. This helps to save both water and energy, as well as wear and tear on the clothes. Keep in mind that it's important to use HE detergent formulations to prevent oversudsing.
