“720p and 1080p? I know this can go to 1080p but can it also be set as 720p? Some of my PS3 games dont support 1080 and it'll look strange.”

To my knowledge, the PS3 will automatically detect the highest resolution supported by a TV it is connected to using an HDMI cable. You can, however, always manually change the maximum output resolution of the PS3 by selecting "Display Settings" under "Settings" in the home menu.
