Depends on what you call smart.. This 6300 level model does not get to use the Universal Remote features that the 6400 and up models have. The remote does have a minimal number of buttons that require pointing it at various parts of the TV go access different functions. So, for example, you can't change from channel 5 to channel 23 by just pushing button 2 followed by pushing button 3. Not so smart for the OTA viewer. You can't change from one input to another with a minimal number of pushes, or turn captions on/off with a single button push, either. Everything you need to do requires calling up a menu on the TV and several 'scroll and choose' actions. You might say that the TV is smart, but the remote is just a few buttons in a box.
