“How "thin" is the outer edge of this TV? I have a 32" Samsung that is very thin along the outer rim/edge-about 1/4 to 1/2 inch for one inch or so before it bows out for the rest of the back. Is this one similar?”

Yes. It is 1/2” around the outer edge and the back bows out to about 2”.
