It all depends.. Is your Blu ray player 4k? HDR compatible? If not you said upgrade your player.. You'll get the most outta the TV.. This thing is a beast.. I love it.. Especially cuz it passes Dolby Atmos from EARC port on the 3rd hdmi port on the TV and the 4th is 2.1 version of hdcp hdmi

There are also adapters if your DVD player only uses red, white and yellow connections. However, I would highly suggest a 4K Blu-ray to get the best quality from your DVDs, as a Blu-ray will upscale to better resolution.
