• Hi there, the soundbar and sub will work just fine if you choose not to use the rears at this time. Just put them aside for safekeeping should you want to use them later. Have a great day! ^Scott

• No you don't have to run rear speakers to make system work. We didn't hook up ours til a few days later and didn't make a ton of difference. Still made it sound better but not much. Hope this helps!
