Yes, the vented model needs a traditional vent that directs the hot air outside. This helps the drying speed on this unit be faster than the drying speed on the ventless. This also runs on 220 volt plug versus the ventless version on 110 volt. We are very happy with the performance after a couple months.

Unfortunately the Best Buy installer that installed the washer/dryer unit cancelled the vent installation as he didn't think it needed it. He said once he cancelled it, he was unable to "un-cancel" it so he couldn't install the vent for us. We had to go to Home Depot and buy a vent and vent tube and install ourselves.... :-( Fail on delivery and installation since they were not able to and did not offer to rectify their mistake.....
