“Does the stove have to be plugged in to work/ignite? It may seem like an obvious answer, however, the last stove I purchased would not work/ignite unless plugged in despite it being gas.”

Each burner automatically ignites by the electrical spark, so the stove need to be plugged into a regular electrical 110V outlet to get this spark. If you choose is not to utilize 110V outlet, you still can ignite the burners manually using any torch spark lighter. However, the stove needs 110V power anyway for the electronic control unit.
