It will work fine, using a larger pot, or pan, on a smaller cooking area. We did that all the time when we had our old stove, with the electric burners. There is no difference now, with these burners. We have a huge frying pan that is larger than the largest size burner, and the bottom of the pan heats uniformly to cook. You just shouldn't use a smaller pot on a larger area....

The more the pot "overhangs" the selected ring, the less efficient the cooking will be. The front dual burners have 6" and 9" rings. I would suggest using the element that is smaller, though it may be a bit less efficient for your 7-1/2" pot, rather than the one that is larger, which could pose a safety hazzard. - Ms. Samsung
