At the most basic level, if you have Internet at home, you can connect the TV to the Internet to stream content, like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu or Youtube. It can also connect to your PC to share picture, video and sometimes be controlled by your phone (not this Samsung in particular). If you have no need for those, you don't need a smart TV, or just don't connect the Smart TV to the Internet - just use it like a nice, hi-def television.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.A Smart TV allows you to connect to the Internet to use services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Pandora. It also comes with a very basic web browser. You can accomplish the same thing with a Roku, Chromecast, Amazon Fire stick, etc. using a regular TV.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.A smart tv has apps and has wifi capabilities like an Apple iPad. The only thing is to access these apps you need your tv remote control vs an iPad is touch screen. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying they are the same but have similar capabilities. A regular does not compare to a smart tv.
