If direct tv is your cable provider, and you want to be able to get 4K content, you will need to upgrade to their genie system. I was told that is the only technology, or receivers capable of delivering that format. i have direct tv and got a 4K ready TV and that is what I was told by them. I had it installed and I have yet to view something at 2160 resolution. However the genie system is far superior to their other HD dvrs.
