“Can someone verify the width of the center stand or if the pictures shown for the TV are to scale? If the screen width is almost 44 inches the stand shown in the pictures can't be just under 18 inches or what is nearly half the width of the screen.”

Yes the stand that sits on the table is 18 1/4 and the connection from that to the tv is 11 3/4.
