I don't believe you need the internet connection for the remote to work but, this is a Smart TV with many internet features built in that you will miss out on without internet. It works by WIFI and Ethernet cable for that. I believe the remote is Bluetooth as it does work even when not aimed at the TV for most things and even from another room and has a neat point feature built in.
