    SUHD: The Future Is Now!

I researched extensively for several months before purchasing the Samsung UN55JS8500 SUHD TV. Then when my seven-year-old, 60” Samsung DLP HDTV experienced a cascade of dying pixels, I took the proverbial plunge. Needless to say, I haven’t been disappointed. Picture quality is outstanding! Colors are vibrant, and when rendering black from a high-quality source, pixels actually turn off. Most retailers don’t have 4K televisions probably calibrated so movies displayed in-store often suffer from “soap opera effect.” But when SUHD displays are properly set up, the vibrancy and depth allow for stunning images. Previous reviewers have criticized Samsung’s Smart Hub Tizen OS, but I had few problems using it with Amazon Video, HBO Go, Hulu, Netflix, Vudu, YouTube, or any of the other apps. Although there’s a dearth of 4K content, early adopters have two significant options until 4K Blu-ray players and movies become available: 1) Amazon Prime streams several series in UHD—notably the first two seasons of Orphan Black—and Amazon originals, including Bosch, Mozart in the Jungle, and Transparent. In addition, other series and movies are available for a fee. 2) Several manufacturers, including Samsung, Sony, and Toshiba offer 4K upscaling Blu-ray players. I have the Toshiba BDX6400, which I bought with frequent flyer miles a few years ago. Although this particular player has its issues, the upscaled 4K image on a Blu-ray like Big Hero 6 is gorgeous! Another content option is the CY-SUC10SH UHD Video movie pack that Samsung recently discontinued. This 1TB hard drive includes ten feature films—The Book Thief, Forrest Gump, G.I Joe: Retaliation, Life of Pi, Night at the Museum, Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness, World War Z, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine—as well as numerous documentaries. Best Buy carried this for $50 plus tax at one point, making it a consummate bargain. The major weakness of the JS8500 is the Samsung Smart Control, which is nearly an oxymoron. Although the onscreen pointer can be handy, the remote control’s response can be sluggish, and the lack of numerical buttons proves more of a liability than an asset. I gave up on trying to use the Voice Recognition feature, and the Universal Remote Setup prompted me to consider buying a new Logitech Harmony remote. Also, the E-manual could be better. Specifically, as someone who owns a 3D-ready, DTS / Dolby Digital 7.1 receiver, I wish the manual provided recommendations about connecting multiple sources when using the One Connect Mini with a receiver. Despite these flaws, I’m giving this television a five-star review. Ultimately, you buy a television for its picture, and the 8500's is sublime! It was finally time for a new tv. Had a vizio for 7 years. I upgraded to a vizio m-series 50" 4k tv. Did not like at all. 4k picture was ok. Regular 1080 was bad. Sound was bad. I guess you get what you pay for. After reading countless reviews on different sites (rtings was my favorite) and best buy.com I decided on the 55" js8500. I thought it was a good deal at 1799. It became a super great deal a week later when they had an online only sale for 1499. Went back for price match and got 300 bucks back. The tv picture quality is amazing. The little 4k content I've seen looks unbelievable. Sound is great. Playing ps4 is awesome. Looks awesome on the wall, thin bezel makes it look like a picture frame. The only con I give the tv is sometimes it feels like it lags when trying to use smart features or navigating the menu. Not a big deal for me though. The control gets a little getting used to also. There are no inputs on the tv. It comes with a box that you can hook up 4 hdmi, usb, digital audio etc. A single cable hooks that box to the tv. Worked out great for me because I put the box on my av stand and ran all cables there then only had one cable going to the tv. Overall it's a great tv. Would definitely recommend.

I absolutely love this TV, its everything as advertised. The upscaling is amazing, the colors, the depth, the warmth, the brightness, all are undisputedly the best I've seen in a TV to date. I love the mouse pointer remote control functions as well as the response time on this TV. The CPUs make this thing fly. The speakers are OK, I will need a sound bar or surround sound speakers soon, otherwise I'm 100% satisfied. I was able to mount this above our fireplace and it looks amazing.

Love this TV! I had a 40" Mitsubshi Tube that finally bit the dust and was forced to make a purchase. The Samsung picture is crystal clear and colors are real-life and vibrant! I have no issues at all using the remote, which some had reported to difficult to understand, and the silver border on the TV isn't distracting as others had stated. The stand is sleek and makes it so easy to access back of cable boxes, DVR, etc. I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

T.v. Is great, look or wait for a good deal and then buy it. Watching sports takes the most time to adjust to reduce motion blur. Not perfect liked I'd hoped, but to the untrained eye, no problem. Colors pop and connected to a Samsung 550 sound system ($275) it's a huge upgrade from my old sony tube t.v. No regrets

After seeing many LED TV's over the past many years being developed, I waited until the 1997 Toshiba TV actually failed to purchase a new one. Merry Christmas 2015! Glad I did wait and get the Samsung - 55 Class (54.6 Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 3D - 4K Ultra HD TV - Silver. It has not dissapointed at all. Great Picture and adding the Samsung Soundbar and BlueRay Player I am set for a long time to come. Still learning the system but it looks to be a good one! Very easy to setup. Love the one cord to the mini hub. Had problems with audio sync so I went online and read reviews. I was able to fix the problem on someone's advice other than Samsung. I have the 4 round coaster things but I'm not sure how to attach them. I assume they go on the bottom of the stand. I didn't find any instructions on how to install them

Upgraded from an LG and will never go back to anything else. SAMSUNG only gets better. The bigger you go the less picture quality you get so I choose the 55" and its awesome all across the board. Sits about 8 feet from my sofa on a 70" fireplace ent. stand and still looks HUGE but still, even the bigger samsungs have that GREAT TOP OF THE LINE PICTURE QUALITY wich caught my eye overall.

I did everything before buying this tv, I read reviews on it, compared it to other brands, saw videos on it, but none came close to telling me how awesome its features really were or mentioned all of them. I had to buy it to find out and these are my findings. I can connect my Samsung Gear Circle headphones, Beats Wireless, etc to my TV set while kicking up to 3D all simultaneously. It makes Gaming a whole lot breathtaking. The WiFi Chip is also wireless AC which really takes advantage of my 200mbps internet compared to what a wireless N chip could do. 4K streaming comes really easy! The HDR also makes an incredible image. My mom is able to appreciate her novelas a lot more now and my dad watches his nature documentaries and is blown away. This TV legit gets my brother jealous he ever bought an LG. TBH we used to be a Sony family and then my brother deviated and so did I with Samsung, and I don't regret it. Watching TV is Living it now. Again my favorite features are the 3D, Bluetooth Audio, Wireless AC, and the cool motion remote with voice is just a bonus. It's a really smart buy if you take this model home, just saying. Oh also it is beautifully thin

It is amazing how truly crystal clear the picture is on this set. The crispness of the colors is unbelievable. I never thought I'd be able to see a picture quality like this. Some times it almost appears as if the person in the foreground is in 3D.

When I first loaded up a 4k clip on YouTube I was blown away. It literally took my breath away. Even my PS4 and XboxOne games look much better as they are upscaled from to 4k. Cable TV never looked so good, but I had to tweak some things to get it there. First, you should set your picture mode to MOVIE, contrast to 100, brightness to 45, color to 45, sharpness to 25, temp to Warm 1, automotion to CLEAR, noise reductions OFF, High Contrast, OFF, cinema black ON. Then play from there. Once you hone in on your settings, the color, and contrast are exceptional. The Tizen OS is snappy and easy to use. Never had a hiccup yet. My only complaint is the remote, but I am slowly getting used to it. BTW - great job BestBuy my TV arrived two days after order, on time, and in great condition!

Originally I wasn't in the market for this much TV, but after doing my homework I decided on this model from Samsung. I'm SO glad I did! The picture quality is absolutely amazing - almost to the point of being distracting. We have young children and watch a lot of coloful animated movies and I'm telling you what, you haven't really seen Madagascar 3 until you see it on this TV. The color is vibrant and crisp and though I turned off the Auto Motion feature (give the "Soap Opera Effect) on my other Samsung TVs, I left it on this one because it actually enhances the viewing experience rather than being a distraction. I was concerned about not getting the full-effect of of the UHD picture without 4K content, but so far that has not been the case at all. Our Apple TV is connected with a UHDMI cable and the picture is incredible. We have our PlayStation hooked up with a just a regular HDMI cable and I don't see any difference in quality between that an the Apple TV (that's when playing either Blu Ray discs or streaming services). The picture is still incredible. I like the simple design of the remote and the pointer feature is very nice and easy to use. The menu is simple and well designed and the smart TV features are super fast and easy to use. I love the look of the silver and while some have found it distracting, I feel that it's sleek and modern. A few quirks: The TV has randomly shut off a few times. It hasn't done it consistently enough to be a problem and never in the middle of programming, usually just when trying to find something to watch on either an app or the Apple TV/Playstation. The sound is only OK. Nothing special. We did end up purchasing a sound bar/surround sound system and it's amazing. We figured with a TV this great, we may as well get the full theater effect. No TV out there is going to have as great a sound quality as a sound bar so I find this deficiency to be minor There is a loss of color quality when viewing from an angle. It's fairly noticeable but in our home, we all view the TV from straight on so it's not an issue. Overall, this is simply a great quality TV. I would (and have) recommend this model to anyone in a heartbeat. In fact, my parents were so enthralled with our 8500 that they are going to buy it in Jan! I've included a picture of Friday Movie Night with our new TV.

Great Set, 4.5 star if I could

I have to admit, this is a great set! Everything I wanted, 120hz, 4k, 26 ms lag, true color, upscale is decent, 55 inches and its a true samsung panel (TH01). Very little side/corner wash out/light bleed, much less than 2 previous sets I had purchsed (Vizio and LG). Fortunately..? I only paid $1605 out the door for this set. I could care less for the 3D capability and as such I dont think it works correctly anyways. Fortunately I have until Jan 15th to return it, unfortunately I can only find two places that have it. Why? 3 dead pixels in a row. Never seen it until I downloaded a 4k pixel test video today. And wow, now i cant stop looking at them. Had I not did this test... to tell you the truth, I would have never seen them (have to be no more than 2 feet away to see it). I highly recommend this set, BUT I also highly recommend downloading the 4k pixel test video to a USB 3.0 flash drive and use the USB 3.0 (on back of TV, NOT on the one connect mini). And test your set! I dont know about anyone else, but $1600 is alot for a tv! I scrutinized it for about 5 seconds and seen it. I thought maybe it was the video and went back to cable... nope, still there... =( Aside the headache and travel I have to do tomorrow to get another set, I still say this is the best set on the market, for the price (at the time).. and im not a samsung fan boy, I actually prefer LG, but I dont have $5k to drop on an OLED! Anywhos, fingers crossed for tomorrows set, no dead pixels! Im not giving less stars for a defective set, because thats dumb. The set performs above average or more, couple hiccups here and there, but not enough to rank 4 stars. some issues with wifi (resolved with last update and or has not occured again: would disconnect and or freeze during playback which would stop the program (netflix)). Similar issue with USB 3.0, no further after update, but still have to physically remove and replug after set has been turned off or it wont "see" the USB flash drive after turning TV on again. Definitely recalibrate colors and such, just google it, youll find several. its not hard, takes 5 mins to do it. Sound is phenomenal! FRONT facing speakers! With sub woofer! Trust me, it sounds great, no need for a sound bar unless you like your sound super loud!, you wont go above 15... 20 with a box fan on, otherwise, its actually too loud. I could care lees for the one connect mini box, personally think its a design flaw, id take away a half star for that if i could. $100 if it breaks to replace it and $40 for the cable. Owned since Nov 22 2015. You will NOT find a 4k set smaller than 60" with 120hz UNLESS its 55" with 3D. Just FYI. 120hz is VERY important with 4k. Dont get me wrong, I love this TV, just minus the dead pixels!

Our old set gave up the ghost, so we began our search at our local BB for a replacement. I stood slack-jawed in front of the Samsung SUHD display. Yes, I know the broadcast loop I was watching was most certainly UHD, something not extremely available yet, but oh, my. What a picture! Set up was ultra easy. Samsung has moved the input hookups from the back of the set to a switch box. After the initial "what?", we realized how much easier and more convenient it is. Four HDMI and an optical audio hookup in the switch box, and one simple input to the TV puts the hookups in easy reach. The only downside is we weren't able to team it with an adequate Blu-ray (we tried three), but hopefully before the end of the year there will be something that can keep up with this beauty. The 3D was awesome (I never thought I would be saying that, 3D seemed like such a gimmick). But then, everything about this set is awesome. Really looking forward to some UHD media becoming easily available soon.

We searched high and low, online, every store, hours upon hours, looking and searching for the perfect TV. We watch a lot of TV, especially hockey so the quality was very important. It does not lag at all. It is crystal clear. Everyone compliments it. The Smart TV addition is great, and we purchased the Samsug sound bar to go with the TV and especially with the 3D option and the glasses provided is like being in the theater. We are really picky when it comes to televisions. We returned 3 before we stuck with this one. The reviews for this are real because it is an amazing TV.

This is an incredible TV- had been holding out for some time for a new TV- so glad I got this one. The picture is incredible and I swear the TV keeps getting smarter (kind of scary, but so far it has gotten only better for me). Example- the TV auto recognized we have Dish for satellite TV service and auto tuned itself for Dish service and the service area. Pretty much didnt even need our dish remote except for DVR services. Ended up getting the 55 over the 65 as the price differential was $1000 for an extra 10 inches. Honestly- 55 inches is just fine for me. This TV auto upscales signal to as close to the highest resolution as it possibly can- very evident improvement in picture quality when I put in a DVD of Saving Private Ryan and you set it to the Battle of Ramelle- There is just no way to describe the improvement in quality.
