• A Christmas present so not opened yet but if you cannot turn it off and it bothers you, a piece of black (electricians) tape will do the trick

• yes, under the settings, there's a couple options. i'm not home right now to tell you exactly how to do it but I just got mine last night and spent 3 hours going through the menu's. it's there.

• Yes this is possible. Disable it under 'System'->'Expert Settings'->'Light Effect'. Flip it to the off position.
