“I would like to use this TV as a movie screen not a TV. Do I have to have this Samsung plugged into cable (comcast, centurylink etc) if I only want to stream and use DVD's? Also assuming TU8000 has built in wireless to connect to wi-fi to stream.”

Yep definitely! I bought a 44" 2 yrs ago, and it was never used in my bedroom where I had it, as too far from bed.. Now replaced w/bigger TV. I put it in guest room and hooked up a DVD player and an Apple box , which has Netflix etc. So excited visitors can have many options. Even news channels, works beautifully. No wifi needed even.
