A:Answer My understanding is the 2017 Samsung QLED TVs are very, very similar to the 2016 high end models that were labeled "Quantum Dot technology." Just a new name for essentially the same technology. Also, I've been told Samsung wants consumers to compare its highest-line QLED technology to that of the LG's very successful and highly rated OLED models. However, although the names look similar (QLED vs. OLED), OLED TVs are a much more advanced technology over the older light emitting diode (LED) technology, which utilize a series of LEDs behind the screen to illuminate the picture. OLED TVs, by the reason of the technology, are self illuminating, and do not require the use of LEDs, resulting in a image with a higher dynamic range, perfect blacks, and require less power to operate.
