Panel Quality varies even if using same tech or features (this affects picture quality greatly). Smart TV features implementation is better on some TV's vs others (this affects TV's within the same brand and model type as well). Branding adds a lot to cost as well! Look up RTINGS for great reviews.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. From my understanding these 4 things can change between models and will effect the cost. I tried to rank them by largest to smallest influence in price: (1) refresh rate of the tv. My suggestion - if you are going 55" or smaller, you can get away with 120. If you are going any bigger, like this 65" you really should look at 240 or above. (2) 3d capability will bump up the price. (3) the color technology - purest blacks and whites and the amount of colors being displayed will effect the price and will change from model to model. (4) The amount of backlighting will play a part in the price. This is how many lights are illuminating the picture on your TV set. More lights typically result in a brighter picture with better contrast and no ghosting around the corners.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Just need to do some research based on what you want and what you are willing to spend. The "seemingly same features" are no way similar. 1080hd, 4k, HDR, Smart, glossy, your internet speed, matte screens...it really is endless. If you don't know what none of that really is, then don't pay for it. Got the 65" Samsung SUHD Smart tv a month ago and love it. I sold my older 60" Sharp 1080 to a guy at work and he absolutely loves it!. But the new Samsung is wayyyy beyond that older model. I got a good deal right before the Super Bowl on this one and feel like I did good. Would I have rather have spent $3000 for an OLED..sure, but can't. It all comes down to what you are willing to spend and what you are knowledgeable about. If you don't know what OLED means, then pay the $900 you mentioned in your question. Goodluck.
