“1- can I mount this to a stone wall 2- how far above the mount would the top of the tv go? There is a ledge above the tv and it needs to be below it.”

You can mount to a stone wall provided you use the proper wall anchors. the mount I purchased tilts up and down. The top of the TV is approximately 9-1/2" above the top of the mount.
