It even has the "NEXTGEN" standard which is still unsettled. At this time the TV may or may not be able to display this standard (NestGen), because of essentially, broadcaster's greed. Remember the early days of cable? Anyway, the MASS of Over The Air broadcast stations are sent via the 1.0 ver which can be received and displayed. Having said this, you still need an antenna to pick up the RF signal, so Yes, you need to have a separate antenna whether it is an indoor (like rabbit ears) or outdoor antenna.
