“Two questions: 1) i want to locate the one box in my attic above the TV; so does the one box need to be within signal of the remote or is the remote signal managed thru the TV? 2) do I need the in wall cable if I’m just running the cable thru a wall?”

The one box has a feature where if there is no motion and/or light then it’ll turn off the display. But in order for this feature to work it has to be in the same room as the display. To directly answer your questions: 1) the remote works through the one box 2) I’m not sure what you are referring to with “in wall cable” but the one box has a single cable that runs from the one box to the tv; this can run in wall, through wall, or even be surface mounted.
