“Do I need any special parts to enable the "steam" function to work? Assuming this needs to get hooked up to the water that is going to the washer somehow? Is there a "splitter" that's needed? How does that work?”

Dryer comes with a wye and extension hose for waterline, it just wyes off the washer cold water line. The only thing needed is and additional water hose like what's on the washer.
