Yes, you need to hook up the steam, very easy to do.

The unit uses fresh water to make steam, so requires access to your home's water supply either through a connection to the Washer or directly to the cold water pipe. The Dryer comes with the hoses and Y-connector needed to make this connection.

No - it just hooks up like a normal dryer. I suspect the water from the wet clothes provides the water that is used for the steam.
