They didn't "change" the drum, it's a different offering for more cost efficient dryers. The flagship and higher-priced dryers are still stainless steel. The reason the most cost efficient dryers are powder coated because the drum is made of steel which is prone to oxidization so it needs a coating to protect it. Steel+powder coating is cheaper than stainless steel.
