“Feeling embarrassed for purchasing this dryer without checking the measurements first! The depth is a full 5" too big for the area. Is there anything that can be used in back of dryer other than a conventional type of dryer vent tube (s-thing narrower)?”

You can also use a flexible exhaust duct/vent. the flexible duct/vent tube It is not recommend because with time it can collect lint and is a possible fire hazard. A solution is to do a yearly cleaning of the flexible duct/vent. Look for a side vent kit if that applies to your drier. Check it Samsung has a space saver rigid due/vent
